From USA To Europe

July 1st, 2008

We’re thinking of moving to Europe. We have a network marketing business that we’d like to grow and the company is thinking about opening up a few European countries to do business in. I’m not sure which country will be first but I know there are three choices - we want to be among the first to go.

That’s why we’re starting now to do research on what the move will cost us. When I say us, I mean my boyfriend, Jake and me. First thing we do is Google international moving company. I put in my home country of USA and for the destination country I’ll try each one of the three European possibilities. The list of international moving companies for each country isn’t that long – five or six. While I collect their free quotes, I put Jake to work checking each international moving company’s reputation on the Better Business Bureau and Epinion. I check their licenses and capabilities. We have two cars, a boat and two Great Danes to move, so I want to make sure they are able to move these things.

After completing each country’s list of international moving companies, their reps and licenses and capabilities, we begin to look at real estate. Our top choices of international moving companies tell us they can actually put us in touch with a real estate agent. That’s good to know for when the time comes to get serious about the move. It should be soon – the announcement will probably come out within the next month.

I feel my excitement grow as I check out the real estate in each country. We decide not to sell our house here in the USA – since we are planning on returning one day, maybe in five years, we’ll just rent it out. Luckily for us, a friend and his wife and baby will rent it from us for now. Selling it is an option we may think about in the future. It all depends on how well we do in Europe. Historically, the first people in a country that is being opened up by a network marketing company end up insanely well off – that is if the business takes off. This will take ingenuity, grit and a lot of hard work.

Jake and I are no stranger to hard work. We are both determined, and extremely dedicated to the company and growth of our business - a fact that has served us well so far. We have thousands of people in our business, some as determined as we are to be a success. Their success equals our success, so to be successful in this business, you need to be very much a coach and mentor. Jake and I are both and the best thing is we continue to learn and grow.

If it is meant to be, we now feel prepared to move at a moment’s notice.

Equipment to Remedy Mold

June 26th, 2008

It does not take long to realize that one who chooses to remedy a mold infestation on their own, as opposed to hiring a professional to do the deed, will probably be wondering as to what the safest way to do this is.  It is important that safety is first and foremost on the long list of things to take into account when dealing with the scourge on one’s home that is mold.  Aggravation of asthma, emphysema, respiratory infections, rashes, eye infections, and even death are just some of the health complications that can come about from having mold in the home.

One of the best ways to ensure that the remediation process is as safe as possible is to know the kind of tools the job will call for. And to know what the job will call for, you must know just how much mold needs to be removed.  If there is mold growing on the walls of your home, then trying to wash the mold off with mold killing chemicals probably, and unfortunately, will not work. In fact, possibly the only solution is the most expensive solution and that would be completely removing and replacing the drywall. However, if the mold has not seeped all the way into the drywall, then this may not be required.

It comes highly recommended that one uses heavy duty mold killing chemicals in the remediation process. If you read product reviews, it should be easy to become committed to buying a particular cleaner. It is also recommended that you buy a high strength brand of trash bag to keep on hand, should any contaminated materials be discovered that should be disposed of immediately.  It is very important that you do not touch anything contaminated that you throw away, as it is possible to cause cross contamination.

You should also purchase some sort of respirator during the remediation process, no matter how serious the contamination is.  A half or full face mask respirator will most likely be required if you are going to be removing the drywall or any other possible building materials from your home or building.  A full face mask can be purchased for roughly $130. You should also buy disposable protective clothing which is fairly inexpensive, especially when you consider the amount of protection that will be received from them. Breathable gloves should be, but these can often only be bought in bulk quantities.

You should also purchase a vacuum with a HEPA filter. These vacuums collect mold spores that have settled onto the floor and have possibly worked their way into the fibers of your carpet.

The Three Ways Mold Affects Us

June 24th, 2008

Mold has been around since before us and has been having an effect on us since the time of Moses, yet we have only recently begun to see the true effects of mold on the human body.  Mold not only affects the human body, but also the bodies of animals, such as our dogs, cats, and even our birds.  We have become aware that mold is not something that we want living where we do, but a lot of us do not feel that there is much that we can do about it.  Most molds fit into three different categories and are classified according to what kind of effect they have on us and our health.

Molds that are considered toxic produce what are called mycotoxins and even though these molds rarely occur where we live, they can cause all kinds of health complications and some of these can lead to death in the most serious of circumstances.  Penicilliosis is native to the region of Southeast Asia and has a fairly high mortality rate without treatment, but even with treatment the number of deaths total about one in five.  Another serious occurrence associated with mold is called aspergilloma and it happens when fungus begins to grow in balls inside any cavities existing in the body, particularly the lungs.  Stachybotrys mold produces mycotoxins and is the most famous of the different black molds that exist and has been referenced by the media as “toxic black mold”.

Allergenic molds seem to affect people the most often and as their name implies, they usually cause some common allergy symptoms, but can be quite a nuisance.  They can aggravate existing allergies or asthma, making the symptoms that a person already has become worse over time.  Anti-histamines may help a small amount, but getting rid of the contamination is usually the only way to keep the symptoms from returning.

Pathogenic molds are less rare than toxic molds or allergenic molds, but they can be just as dangerous in people that have compromised immune systems such as those who are HIV-positive or has AIDS, cancer, or is recovering from surgery of any kind.  The elderly, pets, and small children are also more at risk than a normal healthy adult person would be.

If you believe that mold exists in your home, you should perform some do-it-yourself mold tests and when you get the results back, hire a professional to get rid of the infestation as soon as possible.

Keeping a Bathroom Free of Mold

June 19th, 2008

We want our bathrooms to stay as clean as possible and the idea of something unsanitary such as mold living in it is a little gross to most of us. Bacteria is bad enough, but when you start thinking about the fact that fungi might be growing in what’s supposed to be one of the cleanest places in your home, you tend to wonder what you can do to prevent it from happening to you. How can you do that? Here are a few tips.

Don’t put carpet in your bathroom. If your toilet overflows, having carpet at its base will prevent you from being able to soak up all the water and if it isn’t cleaned up properly and is allowed to dry naturally, mold can start to grow within 48 hours. The best kind of floor to have in the bathroom is a tile one and caulking around the bathtub and walls will make sure the water can’t escape into the wood behind it.

One of the most important purchases you can make if you buy an older home is a bathroom vent that will allow steam and warm air to escape outside into the atmosphere instead of collecting and causing condensation on your ceiling. The sheetrock on your ceiling will absorb this condensation and become water damaged over time if the steam from your shower or bath has nowhere to go. If you don’t have a vent like this installed in your bathroom, it will save you money to have one installed as quickly as you can gather the funds to do so.

Throwing wet or damp towels and rags into your bathroom closet and leaving them in contact with the floor, even if you do have a tile one, will cause mold to grow if they’re not removed regularly. It’s best to use a clothes hamper or something else to put the clothes into besides just leaving them on the floor. Dirty clothes baskets or bins should be emptied often, at least every two days. Even if they’re in a bin instead of on the floor, mold can still start to grow.

If you discover mold growing anywhere in your bathroom on the sheetrock or around the floor, it’s best to assume that the mold is also growing inside the wall, ceiling, or floor. Most of these building materials will need to be replaced as soon as possible.

Advice on Working with a Financial Planner

May 22nd, 2008

Here are a few tips on getting the best out of your San Jose financial planner:

1. Be open and honest. Hiding truths from your planner can cause major problems during the decision making process. Your planner is there to work for you. If you want your planner to do the best job possible, offer up all the hard truths about your spending habits and financial decisions. If your planner does not know about a problem, they cannot fix it, either.

2. Ask a lot of questions. Similar to the previous point, it’s all about honesty. If you don’t know something, ask. Your San Jose financial planner has probably heard it all before. It’s his or her job to keep you informed, so make sure you know the answers to the questions that matter to you.

3. Keep your planner informed, too. It goes both ways. While your San Jose financial planner needs to keep you informed of all the information you need to know, you need to do the same thing in return. If you are making any life changes in the future, let your planner know about it, so that the two of you can plan accordingly.

It is important that you follow this advice when dealing with your financial planner. If you do so, you create an environment of honesty and learning, that will lead to a better financial picture down the road.

Preparing Your Old House For Sale

April 17th, 2008

If you’re selling your house, you have to do several things to ensure its ready for a smooth and easy sale. You can hire an estate agent, interior stager or complete sales teams to sell your house - or you can do it yourself.

Houses are considered to be easiest to sell when they are clean, tidy, free of clutter, and the walls are neutrally toned - some sites and experts suggest painting your walls white, others suggest that you should paint them with pale, neutral, matching colors. If this isn’t possible, it is important to make sure your walls are clean - removing clutter and cleaning woodwork and painted walls, can give your room a much needed lift.

If you’re de-cluttering, you can also begin packing whilst doing so, but considering some houses sell up to three months before you’re planning on moving OR up to a year after you’ve moved, its also important not to plan to sell straight away, unless your house is in a highly sought after area, and you’ve got a good, competitive price. If not, you might be in for quite a wait on selling your house - and you also have to find a new place to move to yourself.

Estate agents, and Realtors do a great job of selling houses, but in an ever increasingly competitive market, you have to do very unique things to sell your house - it has been reported that some people are offering new cars, or paying the tax on your house for the first year of your stay in the new house. The housing market is always expanding, but you can’t sell just anything - dilapidated houses can’t simply be considered ‘fixer uppers’ and all houses for sale have to meet ever increasing stringent codes - or have new owners that will fix these to meet those codes.
